Charlotte Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball had a historic night in Spectrum Center at the expense of Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks. Still, Young made sure to congratulate the promising guard once the final horn sounded.
The 19-year-old Ball became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, scattering 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in Charlotte's 113-105 victory. Young and Ball, who went at each other for the entire 48 minutes, shared a nice moment post-game.

Facing Trae Young definitely brought out the best in LaMelo Ball, who enjoyed the greatest game of his young NBA career so far. While his passing and rebounding skills are considered his best traits, Ball held his own on offense against the Hawks' scoring specialist.
The 6-foot-8 Ball made nine of his 13 attempts from the field and went 3-of-5 from past the arc. He actually outplayed Young, who figured in another off night for the second game in a row against the Hornets.
After his seven-point stinker in their last game, Young put up just 15 points on a putrid 5-of-19 shooting from the field. He did record 10 assists but missed all his five attempts from downtown.
With their All-Star guard firing blanks, Atlanta was no match against the Hornets' balanced attack. Apart from Ball, Terry Rozier and PJ Washington also had big nights, scoring 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Trae and LaMelo, meanwhile, will figure in more head-to-head match-ups for years to come. The promising rookie got the better of Young this time, but it's nice to see the Hawks superstar still give out credit when it's due.
