The Indiana Pacers season seemed to hang by a thread when star shooting guard Victor Oladipo went down holding his right knee on Jan. 23 in a game against the Toronto Raptors. When X-rays found that Oladipo had suffered a ruptured quad tendon and would miss the rest of the season, things looked extremely bleak for a Pacers team that –at the time — was in the top three of the Eastern Conference.

Instead, Indiana scratched and clawed their way to the no. 5 seed in the East. Despite their valiant efforts, however, the Pacers were swept out of the playoffs in the first round by the Boston Celtics. A team that had managed to go 16-19 without Oladipo simply did not possess the kind of playmaking or scoring necessary to win in the postseason.

In his annual press conference on Wednesday, however, Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard vowed that the team will address their offensive issues in the summer and will look to add another unselfish creator alongside Oladipo.

“We want to get faster. I really want to do a deep dive on the guys who create and…I love a great passing team,” Pritchard said, via Mark Montieth of Pacers.com. “Passing is contagious and there were times this past year where the ball really moved — we had an unselfish team — but if we can get another passer or creator out there with Victor, I think that gives us a lot of opportunities.”

In Victor Oladipo's absence, point guard Darren Collison and forward Domantas Sabonis each increased their usage, with Sabonis in particular looking like a dependable frontcourt piece for the future in a breakout third season.

But Collison and Oladipo were also the only two players on the roster to average over five assists. Kevin Pritchard would likely prefer to add another player capable of putting up five to seven dimes per contest.
