When Caris LeVert was discovered to have a form of kidney cancer following his trade to the Indiana Pacers, many assumed he wouldn't play this season. Despite this obstacle, LeVert is expected to make a miraculous return this season, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Early in the season, LeVert was serving as a main source of scoring on the Brooklyn Nets alongside Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. But with the Nets looking to pair Irving and Durant with a third superstar, Brooklyn initially agreed to send LeVert to the Houston Rockets as part of the James Harden trade, only for him to get rerouted to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Victor Oladipo

Upon landing in Indiana, after taking his physical with the Pacers, LeVert found out that he had a form of kidney cancer.

The Michigan product would undergo surgery to remove the cancer back in late January, causing him to be sidelined as he recovers from his abnormal ailment. Even though the Pacers don't have a definitive timetable for LeVert to return to action, he is expected to make his debut with Indiana at some point this season.

Before being traded, LeVert was notching 18.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and a career-best 6.0 assists per game for the Nets. His ability to score in a variety of ways will be a welcomed addition to the Pacers once he's able to join the lineup. Despite the uphill climb he has had to endure, LeVert is defying the odds and is poised to play in the same year he underwent surgery for cancer.

Indiana could certainly use the boost given the club's 16-18 record. The Pacers have been really struggling of late playing without both LeVert and T.J. Warren, but they did come up with a big comeback win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.
