Former NFL defensive back Charles Woodson is most known for his time with the Oakland Raiders, but he also had a seven-year run with the Green Bay Packers from 2006 through 2012, so Aaron Rodgers became awfully familiar with him.

So familiar, as a matter of fact, that Rodgers thinks Woodson is the best defensive player he has ever faced:

“It’s Charles Woodson,” Rodgers told Chris Simms of NBC Sports. “I got to go against him in practice for years. Nobody had better instincts, could bait quarterbacks better than him, more talent, ball skills, coverage ability, smart little nuances of the position. He’s the best. By far.”

Rodgers recalled one season when Woodson was particularly dominant, mentioning his 2009 campaign when he registered 74 tackles, a couple of sacks, nine interceptions, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, 18 passes defended and three defensive touchdowns:

“Charles dominated in a way I never saw anybody dominate before. The 2009 season, one of the greatest seasons I’ve ever seen,” Rodgers said. “What he did on defense, impacting the game, I’ve never seen a player impact the game that way until Aaron Donald.”

That season, Woodson made the Pro Bowl while also earning First-Team All-Pro honors.

Woodson entered the NFL with the Raiders in 1998 and spent his first eight seasons in Oakland, making four Pro Bowls and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection. He then joined the Packers, where he reached the Pro Bowl four more times and notched another First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 42-year-old then returned to the Raiders for the final year of his career, making one more Pro Bowl.
