The Green Bay Packers have gotten off to a 2-1-1 start to the 2018 NFL season. Mike McCarthy's football team has shown flashes of big potential, but they have also shown flashes of being a very talented team that has too many holes to compete for a Super Bowl. That being said, the defense could not be happier with the new scheme that they are playing in.

Blake Martinez, one of the Packers' talented, young linebackers, opened up about how much he loves playing in new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's defense in an interview with the Jim Rome Show.

“This scheme is awesome. It's a middle linebacker's dream. I have a lot of freedom to get us into things that allow us to get those negative plays in the backfield and to allow our backends to not have to cover so often.”

He went on to talk about the defense and how every player on that side of the football is playing for each other.

“I speak for the defensive side. Whoever is out there is going to give it their all. When we're all out there, people are going to do the right things at the right time and we have a lot of trust with each other.”

Martinez has been one of the biggest bright spots for the Packers so far this season. After injuries to Jake Ryan and Oren Burks thinned the Packers at the linebacker position, Martinez stepped up.

Throughout the first four games of the season, Martinez has racked up 33 tackles to go along with a sack and two defended passes.

At 24 years old, Martinez has been proving that he can be a major leader for the Green Bay defense. He fits in with Pettine's aggressive style of defense and it is helping him take his game to the next level.

Expect to see Martinez continue developing and improving throughout the remainder of the season. The future is bright for the Packers' defense and the budding star out of Stanford will be a big part of it for years.
