The San Diego Padres were hit with brutal news prior to the 2022 season when it was revealed that Fernando Tatis Jr suffered an off-season injury in a motorcycle accident. The All-Star shortstop dealt with baseball-related injuries in 2021. But this ailment could have been avoided. Nonetheless, Tatis Jr has battled back and is preparing to gear up for baseball activities after missing the first 3 and a half months of the season.

ABC 10 news reporter Ben Higgins shared the following update on Fernando Tatis Jr.

BREAKING: AJ Preller says Fernando Tatis, Jr. will begin his hitting progression TODAY on his way to a season debut for the Padres.

On the surface, this update may seem insignificant. You may wonder why hitting progression is a big deal.

Tatis Jr injured his wrist in the bike accident. Wrist injuries have the potential to keep hitters out of commission for a long time. So Tatis Jr hasn’t been able to consistently swing a bat in his rehab.

But it’s a great sign for the Padres if he has been cleared for hitting activities. This means that his wrist is feeling good enough to start swinging a bat.

He is still likely at least two weeks away from returning. It will take some time for Fernando Tatis Jr to find his rhythm and go through rehab games. But the Padres’ have their eyes set on October. So as long as the team stays in the postseason hunt, Tatis Jr can take his time in recovery. The Padres just want him healthy for a postseason run.
