Ron Rivera has been Cam Newton's only head coach since the quarterback was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2011 draft and he is sad to see him go. Newton said that he will be forever grateful for what Rivera has done for him, and for selecting him first overall.

“Will be forever grateful because of the impact you had on my life,” Newton wrote via Pro Football Talk. “Thank you for giving me an opportunity. Thank you for believing in me. I can go on and on but most importantly, thank you for allowing me to be me.”

Newton and Rivera had a lot of success together, but injuries have hurt Newton the last couple of years and it has derailed the success of the Panthers.

The big question going forward is if the team will be making a quarterback change this season. Newton is under contract for one more season and he has a cap hit of $21.1 million which isn't too high.

Depending on who the new coach is, they may want to bring in their own quarterback and as long as Newton is healthy there should be a trade market for him this offseason as long as he can get healthy.

According to Tiffany Blackmon of the NFL Network, Newton is planning to undergo foot surgery because rehab attempts have been unsuccessful.

Hopefully, Rivera can get another chance with another team and Newton can have a full recovery and get back to his old style of play.
