It may be too early for the Carolina Panthers to hit the panic button, but they are 0-2, without Cam Newton, and about to face an exciting rookie in Arizona's Kyler Murray. However, this is an opportunity for Kyle Allen to step up in his stead.

Ian Rapoport has confirmed what some Panthers fans feared coming into the week: Newton is not fully healthy and may have to sit out Week 3.

The team was hesitant to announce his unavailability early in the week as they were still assessing his situation. However, he wasn't able to suit up for the team's Tuesday practice.

“No (updates) other than the fact that he didn’t practice today, but is getting his treatment, getting all the information he can in terms of meetings and all that good stuff,” Rivera said, per the Charlotte Observer.

Adam Schefter believes that if Newton cannot play due to his foot, Allen will have to step up his preparation.

Allen will only be making his second start in his NFL career if he ever gets the nod. However, there's more to this game than just Allen getting his opportunities to play extended reps.

The upcoming game against the Cardinals means a lot to him if he does get the nod. He was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is excited to play in front of friends and family. His best friend, Christian Kirk, is wide receiver for the Cardinals. He will also play against Murray, who he shared QB duties with at Texas A&M in 2015.

With Murray looking likely to start as the season goes on, it will look to be a reunion of sorts for Murray and Allen. Fans can surely expect to see great football from these young QBs.
