The Carolina Panthers are expected to sign XFL quarterback P.J. Walker, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Former XFL players were allowed to begin signing with NFL teams of Monday morning.

Walker had been playing for the Houston Roughnecks before the 2020 XFL campaign was suspended. In five games, he threw for 1,338 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Temple, went undrafted in 2017 but signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent.

Walker never actually played a game for the Colts, spending most of his time on the practice squad before eventually being released for good just before the 2019 season began.

He spent four years at Temple, arriving at the school in 2013. During his freshman season, Walker received ample playing time, finishing with 2,084 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight picks while completing 60.8 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 150.8.

Walker then took a rather massive step backward in his sophomore year, totaling 13 touchdowns and 15 picks while completing a meager 53.3 percent of his passes.

He recovered bit during his junior campaign, throwing for 2.317 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions, completing 56.7 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 125.3.

In addition, the Elizabeth, N.J. native accumulated 771 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground throughout his NCAA tenure.

The Panthers went 5-11 in 2019 and have missed the playoffs each of the last two years.
