The Carolina Panthers and Matt Rhule have fired offensive coordinator Joe Brady following their disappointing loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins beat the Panthers 33-10, prompting the Carolina team to make the decision on Brady.

Head coach Rhule met with Brady on Sunday morning to let him know of his firing. Additionally, the Panthers said that a temporary replacement will fill in the offensive coordinator role for the remainder of the season. Via panthers.com:

The team has parted ways with offensive coordinator Joe Brady, after he met with head coach Matt Rhule Sunday morning.

“I met with Joe this morning and informed him that I have decided to make a change,” said Rhule. “I'm very grateful to him for his time and effort in helping us get established over this past year and a half.”

For the final five games of the year, senior offensive assistant Jeff Nixon will coordinate the offense in conjunction with the remainder of the offensive coaching staff.

Currently, the Panthers are 5-7 with five games left to play. They are 3rd in the NFC South and can still make a late challenge for the playoffs. While they are currently on a two-game losing streak, the Carolina team did start the season strong. They kicked off the season with 3 straight wins before going on to lose five of their next six games.

Part of what has made Brady's job difficult is the absence of running back Christian McCaffrey. Injuries have kept the 25 year old out for most of the season, and the offense has struggled without him, averaging under 20 points per game.

Following Joe Brady's firing, the Panthers' next game without him is against the Atlanta Falcons.
