The Carolina Panthers will be the next contestants to attempt slowing down the Gardner Minshew mania in Week 5. Luckily for them, Gerald McCoy and Eric Reid are expected to play in Week 5 per Ian Rapoport.

Throughout the week, McCoy went from being a full participant in practice to being a non-participant later in the week. Fortunately, the veteran defensive tackle is slated to be in uniform on Sunday.

In the offseason, Carolina signed McCoy after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released him. Since his arrival to the Panthers, the defense has become a very formidable group. Furthermore, the Panthers currently have the fourth-ranked defense in the NFL.

On the other hand, Reid didn't practice for the majority of the week due to an ankle issue. The team's starting safety has been a prominent player on the defense since he signed with the Panthers in 2018.

Over the first four games of the season, Reid has totaled 21 tackles, one sack, and a fumble recovery. Reid is the enforcer in the secondary and he will need to show that in Week 5.

Ever since Nick Foles went down with an injury, rookie Gardner Minshew has provided some optimism for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The charismatic quarterback was named the AFC's Offensive Rookie of the Month for the month of September.

Thus, Carolina's defense will have their hands full containing the Jaguars passing attack. Fortunately, McCoy and Reid will be active for Ron Rivera's talented defense in Week 5. Along with those two, rookie pass rusher Brian Burns is also expected to play against the Jaguars.
