After months of being away from football, Cam Newton agreed to sign with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. Newton reportedly signed off on a one-year deal with the Panthers worth $10 million, with $4.5 million of it being fully guaranteed.

Across social media over the day, a multitude of current and former NFL players joined in the sheer excitement to see the one-time NFL MVP winner make his return to the Panthers. Former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is also much thrilled to see Newton return to the league.

During FOX NFL Thursday’s pregame show, Olsen opened up on just what it means to see Newton rejoin Carolina after his departure from the team in 2020.

“Back in March, the Panthers were kind enough to acknowledge me and Thomas Davis, and our career,” Olsen said. “We had a nice retirement ceremony and Dave Tepper, the owner of the Panthers got up there and said ‘Cam Newton, one day we will bring him home.'

“I don’t think anyone thought one day he was gonna put on the No. 1 jersey, run out of the smoke and do the Superman again under center, yet here we are.

“I've been clear on the impact he’s made on my career. He's the best thing to ever happen to me, on and off the field. I am thrilled. I am jacked. I can't wait to see what he does.”

For now, there may be a wait for when Newton will make his season debut with Carolina. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule noted on Thursday that for the moment, P.J. Walker is on par to start for the team at quarterback against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10.

Nonetheless, all eyes sure will be on whether Newton can soon help to turn around the Panthers' ongoing campaign following their 4-5 start.
