Unfortunately, you'll be waiting a while for the new SpongeBob movie.

The next underwater adventure is coming out later than expected. It was originally scheduled for May 2025 but's been pushed back to Christmas 2025, according to Comicbook.com.

SpongeBob SquarePants new movie delay

This is due to a series of Paramount release date shuffles that have been affected by the strikes. Mission Impossible 8 and A Quiet Place: Day One are other movies that are changing their release dates.

Revealed as The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, there's not much else known about the upcoming movie. This will mark the 4th full-length feature film in the SpongeBob franchise. Meanwhile, the Nickelodeon series is going strong and was just renewed for its 15th season.

“As we've known with Nickelodeon's long-standing success, the kids and family audience is incredibly loyal, and we see that on Paramount+ as well, with kids and family ranking as one of the strongest genres on the service in terms of both engagement and subscriber acquisition,” Brian Robbins, Nickelodeon's boss, had said of the franchise earlier.

“So as they stay for our shows and look for even more of them, we're doubling down on giving them what they want by expanding the universes of the characters they love the best,” he continued.

The series' voice cast is expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming movie. This includes castmembers Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton).

Though there's a long time to wait for the SpongeBob movie, the show on Nickelodeon will surely keep fans occupied in Bikini Bottom.
