ESPN writer Seth Wickersham's new book on the New England Patriots, titled “It's Better to Be Feared,” features a ton of juicy stories about the two-decade dynasty. Of course, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Robert Kraft all feature prominently given they were the constants of that dynasty.

Belichick has always been known to have something of a frosty personality, and that reared its head in one tale told in this book. Back in 2008 at the league meetings, Belichick and former Patriots assistant coach Eric Mangini, who at that time was the head coach of the New York Jets, nearly came to blows.

Why?

Belichick blew off Mangini's wife, nearly causing a fight:

Belichick blew her off, and when she told Eric what had happened, he charged across the room and needed to be held back by other coaches from swinging at Belichick. “Hey Bill, f*** you!” Mangini yelled.

This was in the wake of the Spygate scandal, which was put into motion by Mangini when he and the Jets complained to the NFL about the Patriots videotaping their defensive coaches' signals from an unauthorized location during the 2007 season. New England was ultimately disciplined by the league.

While Belichick and Mangini had a lot of success together with the Patriots, there was surely some bad blood because of Spygate. It would have been quite the sight to see these two men get into a fight at the NFL meetings because Belichick slighted Mangini's wife. It's probably a good thing Mangini was held back.
