It seems not all the bridges were burned in Charlotte for Cam Newton, who recently signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots.

Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson has nothing but genuine happiness for his former teammate, whom he claimed is still an MVP-caliber quarterback.

“Man, I was happy for Cam,” Thompson told Colleen Wolfe of NFL Media (per NBC Sports). “I hated that it took so long for him to get signed. He’s an MVP quarterback. Cam still has it. And I’m happy for him, I’m glad the Patriots invested in him and I can’t wait to see Cam Newton come out there and play.”

The 2015 first-rounder has spent his entire career playing alongside Newton until the signal-caller called it quits and was released by the Panthers earlier this 2020.

Now that he's set to embark on his first season with the Panthers without the 2015 MVP, Thompson shared that as much as he's excited for Newton's new journey with the Patriots, he's also thrilled about Carolina's new quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater.

“I think Teddy’s definitely going to come in and change the offense. He has great weapons,” Thompson said. “His start with the Saints, 5-0, was just incredible. It just shows you that the Teddy that Minnesota had drafted back then is back. I’m happy to see that. I’ve always been a fan of Teddy, especially when he was at Louisville. So, I’m happy to have him as a teammate. I know that he has a lot of tremendous weapons around him and we built that offensive line so he could feel comfortable in the pocket.”

It's going to be exciting to see if Newton still “has it” as he's set to join the Patriots' training camp within the next few weeks.
