New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty thinks that everyone can learn a thing or two if they just take a bit to listen to what others are saying.

In an interview with Peter King of Football Morning in America, McCourty said one thing he has learned the last week is many people are interested, and he wants people to learn the type of problems that people are going through:

“What we’ve heard and seen in the last week or so is that more people care, more people are interested. I would encourage people to listen. Learn the problems. Really learn them. Let’s listen. Let’s correct and handle situations that don’t need to happen. We know how important the police officers are in our society. But there have to be consequences when they do wrong.”

Devin McCourty knows there are a lot of talks right now, but the right answer is not to just have change for a month or a year. This is a change that needs to happen forever, passed down to generation to generation:

“I’m not super-confident a year from now we’ll be past the conversation stage. Right now, the Fortune 500 companies, the big banks, they’re having the conversations. If things improve a little bit, we’ve got to fight that feeling of just being happy with some progress. People need to jump in and jump in for the long haul, to help future generations and not just themselves.”

That is the big key that needs to come out of the situation surrounding the death of George Floyd. It feels different this time that true change could happen, but everyone needs to be on board.

This is a movement that can be led by athletes and celebrities, but it's going to take the work of everyone to make the United States and world a better place for everyone.
