New England Patriots cornerback Joejuan Williams is already looking forward to learning from Stephon Gilmore after being drafted by the franchise.
Williams was selected with the No. 45 overall pick in the NFL draft, and it was clear entering the weekend that he was someone the Patriots had plenty of interest in.
And now that he's officially headed to New England, Williams understands the value of being able to learn everything that he can from an All-Pro cornerback like Gilmore.
From Tyler Sullivan of 247Sports:
“I plan on picking his brain,” Williams said of Gilmore. “Whatever I can get from him, I plan on picking it. At the end of the day, he’s one of the best in the league and I want to be one of the best in the league. I have to learn from the greats and whatever he does – eating, sleeping, nutrition, treatment – I want to pick from him and try to get that off his game. From playbook to life, that’s something I want to learn because I want to be one of the greats just like him.”
Williams developed into one of the best playmaking corners in the SEC while at Vanderbilt, and he should be able to make an impact right away for the Patriots.
Given the team's success in the draft, it wouldn't be surprising at all to see Williams become a mainstay in the Patriots' secondary.
