With the NFL's final preseason games already underway, there's little to no point for teams to play their starters. However, the New England Patriots have tapped Josh Gordon, Demaryius Thomas and Julian Edelman to play against the New York Giants on

All three wideouts were on the field alongside rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham to open Thursday night's game, as noted by Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams. Thomas was dominant in the first half, with seven catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Gordon and Edelman combined for 3 catches for 50 yards.

It marked the first preseason action for Gordon, Edelman and Thomas.

Given the fact that these three receivers haven't played a minute of preseason football until Thursday night, it's important for them to get the rust off and play some snaps under game-time situations.

The Patriots are looking deadly in the passing game with the three ready to catch Tom Brady's passes. Edelman is a New England fixture since 2009 and has performed consistently for Belichick. Gordon has been electric at times in his career, and played well for the Patriots last season after being acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Thomas is a recent acquisition who won Super Bowl 50 as the Denver Broncos No. 1 receiver.

With Brady still playing well at 42 years old, there's no question that New England will enter this season as a favorite to win another Super Bowl.
