The New England Patriots wore their red throwback jerseys often in the early 2000s, with the uniforms becoming popular among NFL fans. The Patriots haven't donned the throwback threads since the 2012 season. However, after a recent announcement from the Patriots' Hall of Fame on Twitter, Mac Jones and other New England players will be going retro in 2022.

Basically, the NFL had implemented a rule that required all teams to wear the same helmet for the entirety of the season, a rule change that was centered on player safety. The Patriots' red throwback uniforms feature a different helmet than the ones they usually wear- a white helmet with ‘Pat Patriot' as the logo.

Well, the NFL recently said they were going to relax the rules for the 2022 season, meaning the Patriots and new players such as quarterback Mac Jones, will be going retro in the red threads next season. Teams had to apply to be able to rock their throwback helmets, which have to comply with the NFL's safety protocols.
