It seems the entire NFL world is discussing the surprising sacking of Cam Newton from the New England Patriots. His exit has paved the way for rookie Mac Jones to take over the starting quarterback role for coach Bill Belichick, who continues to surprise many with his roster decisions.

Belichick has repeatedly proven himself to be quite the genius. After all, he has led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles. It's hard to argue with the man's vision. But one of his former players begs to disagree with Belichick's call to give the keys to the unproven Jones and replace the more accomplished Newton.

Former Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins, in fact, had biting remarks after Jones was picked over Newton (via NBC Sports Boston).

“I think it’s a huge mistake and it has the potential to be really ugly. The fact that you’re handing the keys to your organization to a rookie, on a team that we all expected based on what they did in the offseason has got to be a playoff-caliber football team. Every rookie quarterback is going to deal with growing pains, is going to deal with, you know what, now I’m in the NFL, it’s no longer preseason. They’re the disguising coverages, they’re blitzing, they’re doing all types of things that I’ve never seen before. And it’s just gonna take time for Mac to see certain things.”

The 22-year-old Jones was selected by the Patriots as the 15th overall pick. While he was definitely a stud at Alabama, he's almost back to square one in the NFL. As Wiggins pointed out, he might not have enough time to adjust.

But as of now, Belichick and the Patriots have made their move. It's now up to Jones to prove them right.
