Through the first few days of the free agency period, the Patriots have seen a few of their notable offensive pieces find new landing spots. One of which saw veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola elect to ink a deal with the Miami Dolphins after the Patriots were unwilling to match the offer he received.

This has left the front office to explore other options to improve the roster this offseason. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Patriots have found another option to help fill Amendola's void by trading with the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

The 27-year-old is coming off his first season with the Oakland Raiders where he struggled to fill a significant role in the offense making 31 catches on 42 targets for 309 receiving yards with zero touchdown receptions along with 121 rushing yards on carries with a pair of touchdowns. It marked the second-lowest amount of receptions and receiving yards in his five seasons in the league. This was a step back from his best campaign where he had a career-high 52 receptions for 453 receiving yards and a pair of touchdown catches.

The addition of Patterson to the mix gives the Patriots a versatile offensive weapon that could be a factor as a runner and receiver along with being a viable kickoff returner with five career touchdowns. New England will likely look to maximize his versatile in order to make the most of his skill set.

Although the Patriots are losing a major part of their offense in Amendola, the team will have some other wideouts such as Patterson, Kenny Britt, Julian Edelman to help make up for his absence. This will go along with Brandin Cooks being in his second year in the offense along with Brady's most reliable red zone target in All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski expected to back next season. That said, the Patriots will likely look for other options in free agency and the draft to add to the wide receiver position.
