The New England Patriots do not plan on fixing the dent that former tight end Rob Gronkowski put in the Lombardi Trophy when he, um, tried to lay a bunt down with it at Fenway Park, according to Nick Goss of NBC Sports Boston.

I'm not sure what exactly was going through Gronkowski's mind when he attempted to use the trophy from this past February's Super Bowl win as a baseball bat, but who knows what goes through Gronk's brain at any point?

But hey; at the very least, Gronkowski gave an otherwise ordinary piece of hardware some character, as that dent will remain in the trophy forever. Think of it as another way of immortalizing Gronkowski as an all-time great Patriot.

The 29-year-old retired earlier this offseason following a 2018-19 campaign in which he looked like a mere shell of himself, as he battled injuries throughout most of the year. He was still able to haul in 47 receptions for 682 yards and three touchdowns, but he barely even resembled the Gronkowski of old.

The Amherst, N.Y. native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Arizona, was originally selected by the Patriots in the second round (42nd pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Gronkowski then went on to make five Pro Bowls while earning four First-Team All-Pro selections throughout his NFL career, stamping his name among the best tight ends to ever play the game.

His best season came back in 2011, when he caught 90 passes for 1,327 yards and led the league with 17 touchdowns.
