The New England Patriots have released a statement regarding a report that a film crew involved with the Patriots had filmed members of the Cincinnati Bengals on their sideline when they took on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The Patriots in their statement revealed they had asked the Browns for the credentials for a film crew that would be filming one of the Patriots scouts. However, they failed to inform the Bengals and the league about their plans.

“While we sought and were granted credentialed access from the Cleveland Browns for the video crew, our failure to inform the Bengals and the League was an unintended oversight. In addition to filming the scout, the production crew – without specific knowledge of League rules – inappropriately filmed the field from the press box. The sole purpose of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road,” read the statement.

The Patriots said they had no intention of using the film for anything else besides their mini-series about their scouts. The Patriots also made it clear that the filming crew is entirely independent of anyone on the Patriots staff, but they take full responsibility for what happened.

“The production crew is independent of our football operation. While aware that one of the scouts was being profiled for a “Do Your Job” episode, our football staff had no other involvement whatsoever in the planning, filming or creative decisions made during the production of these features.

We accept full responsibility for the actions of our production crew at the Browns-Bengals game,” read the statement.

It's unclear if the league plans on taking action against the Patriots, but this isn't the first time New England has been involved in filming their opponent. The NFL could consider that if they do decide to give out some punishment.
