The New England Patriots have released Antonio Brown, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown,” the Patriots said through a statement. “We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.”

This news comes just 11 days after New England added him to the roster.

Brown played one game with the Pats this past Sunday, catching four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. However, what the Patriots did not know when they first signed Brown was that he had been hit with rape allegations, which surfaced last week.

Following the rape accusations made by Brown's former trainer, Britney Taylor, a report from Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated mentioned another woman who accused Brown of sexual misconduct in 2017.

On Thursday, days after the report was published, the woman said she received “intimidating texts” from Brown, per Klemko. The woman provided screenshots of the messages, which included photos of her and her children.

The messages came from the same number Brown provided her two years ago and were part of a group chat.

Brown was originally supposed to play the 2019 campaign with the Oakland Raiders after being traded there from the Pittsburgh Steelers back in March, but a string of incidents ultimately resulted in the 31-year-old asking for his release shortly before the season.

The Raiders granted Brown's request, and he signed with the Patriots almost immediately afterward.
