Bill Belichick has made it clear he did not know about the filming that was being done of the Cincinnati Bengals, and so far, the NFL agrees. The New England Patriots said they were in the wrong, but it was for a special for their website and had nothing to do with the gameday planning for the Bengals.

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports the investigation is winding down, and, so far, the NFL has found no evidence that Belichick or anyone on the coaching staff had any link to the video.

“But there is no indication at this point that Belichick or the Patriots’ football staff has been tied to the video or that the investigation has uncovered evidence of a sustained, organized effort by the Patriots to gain a competitive on-field advantage, according to those people with knowledge of the case,” said Maske.

The expectation is if that continues to be the findings, the Patriots will be spared from a significant penalty.

The Patriots will still face some punishment for breaking NFL rules, but it could be minor. There is a chance they could strip the team of a draft pick or drop one of their draft picks to later in the round. Losing a draft pick would hurt the Patriots, but it's hard to imagine if the coaching staff did not know that it's going to be a high draft pick they lose.

According to Maske, the investigation could wrap up this week, but it's unclear when the NFL will release the findings of their investigation.
