Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the New England Patriots and the NFL on Sunday but there are still some grumblings that he could return for the 2019 season.

Gronkowski's agent Drew Rosenhaus told Peter King for Football Morning in America that he wouldn't be surprised if his client somehow finds his way back to the field.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out even though Gronk has announced his retirement, the future Hall of Famer has a lot of respect for Brady and he thinks that if Brady were to call and try to convince him to come back, he isn't so sure that Gronkowski would say no.

Gronk has made no secret that the wear and tear on his body has worn him down through the years, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be persuaded to come back, perhaps during the season after having several months to rest and recuperate.

It’s easy to envision the Patriots being willing to bring him back if he wants to come back, especially if they’re in the middle of a playoff race and they think he could make the difference. Gronkowski has spoken often of his respect for Tom Brady. If Brady calls Gronk at some point during the season and says, “I want a seventh Super Bowl ring and I can’t do it without you,” does Gronk say yes?

Even players like Jason Witten hung it up for an entire year and then got the itch to play football again and is now coming back this year. Maybe Gronk will take a year off and then decide to come back for the 2020 season?

Either way, until Gronk is inducted into the Hall of Fame, there is a chance he could come back.
