If you're not fond of gruesome injury videos, this next part is not for you. In the New England Patriots game against the Chicago Bears, running back Sony Michel suffered a leg injury and looking at the footage, it seems to be serious.

The injury occurred with the Patriots driving down 10-7. Michel fumbled on the play. The Bears recovered and converted the turnover into a touchdown to take a 17-7 lead.

Michel was quickly carted to the Patriots’ locker room following the injury, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. That Michel's injury has left New England with just James White and Kenjon Barner at running back.

Michel, who is still a rookie, has been the primary running back option for the Patriots this season. He was actually listed as questionable all week but was eventually available. But given how serious Michel's injury looked, it's unlikely he will return to the Bears game.

After a slow start to the season, the Patriots have been on a three-game winning streak to give them a share of the AFC East divisional lead. In that stretch, Michel has been heavily featured and racked up 316 yards on 67 carries and reaching the end zone four times.

The injury to Michel takes even more meaning as star tight end Rob Gronkowski is sidelined for the first time this season with ankle and back issues. While Gronkowski's absence wouldn't have directly translated to more targets for Michel, it could have resulted in the Patriots leaning even more heavily on their ground game, but this injury forces them to take a somewhat different approach.
