In typical fashion, the New England Patriots sat Tom Brady for their preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. Now, Brady will also be a healthy scratch in New England's second preseason bout against the Tennessee Titans according to Allan Bell of 247Sports.

Brady not playing in the preseason shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as he's rarely seen the field in the preseason throughout his career. At this point in his career, what could Brady possibly gain from taking a few unnecessary snaps in a meaningless game?

If anything, Brady could put himself at risk of injury in a game that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. At 42-years old, the Patriots longtime quarterback is better off watching from the sidelines in street clothes.

New England could benefit from Brady sitting to see what they have in Brian Hoyer and rookie Jarrett Stidham. The team waived Danny Etling earlier this week; showing their confidence in the group they currently have.

With this in mind, New England has to make a decision on whether to have Hoyer or Stidham as the backup to Brady. In their first exhibition contest, Hoyer and Stidham both showcased positive for the coaching staff to see on tape.

Hoyer completed all but two of his passing attempts for 147 yards and two touchdowns. On the other hand, Stidham went 14-24 for 179 yards and a touchdown. Presently, Hoyer will likely get the nod as the backup due to his experience with the team.

The Patriots have no reason to deploy Brady in the preseason but the other quarterbacks on the roster could profit from more reps in the offense.
