It is now mid-May, and Cam Newton is still without an NFL team. Despite lowering his expectations from demanding to be a starter to now be willing to come in as a backup, teams are still not calling for the former MVP signal-caller. Either teams are already set at the quarterback position, or its due to the lack of team's ability to fully check on his health. One team, however, would make a terrific fit for Cam, that's the New England Patriots — at least according to ESPN's Tim Hasselbeck.

Per 247 Sports.

“I think (New England) is the perfect landing spot for Cam,” Hasselbeck said, as transcribed by 247Sports. “Take away 2019 where he was hurt and you look at the full previous seasons, he threw for 100 touchdowns and rushed for 25. His production is undeniable. You can’t ignore it. So if I were Cam Newton, one of the places I would be trying to get to is New England to compete with Jarrett Stidham and whatever else they have in the room in New England.”

The former quarterback and current analyst Hasselbeck does have a point. Outside of the 2019 season in which Newton only played two games due to injuries, the three-time Pro-Bowl gunslinger has logged in 182 total touchdowns to go along with a 68-53-1 record in his first eight years playing for the Carolina Panthers and appeared in a Super Bowl game.

After losing iconic quarterback Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots are poised to line up second-year man Jarrett Stidham starting under center. If signed by New England, Cam can certainly challenge his fellow Auburn Tiger for the starting quarterback spot. Newton is a more proven commodity and if healthy, could reasonably come back to his productive days and be a shoo-in for the position.

Newton was released by the Panthers last March after failing to find a trade partner.
