Longtime NBA veteran Pau Gasol is set to go back to his old stomping grounds after he inked a contract to play with FC Barcelona for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, via an announcement on Twitter.

Prior to making the jump to the NBA, Gasol started his professional playing career with the Spanish squad back in 1998. He stayed in Europe for three seasons until 2001 and garnered a handful of league titles along with a couple of MVP awards.

After an impressive showing with FC Barcelona, Pau Gasol was eventually selected with the third overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2001 NBA Draft. He eventually saw stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and the Milwaukee Bucks as his career progressed.

The Spanish big man last signed with the Portland Trail Blazers back in July of 2019 but failed to suit up for them as he was eventually waived by the team several months later. Despite losing his luster in recent years, Gasol remains to be one of the most decorated European big men that ever played the game of basketball.

He has already amassed three Olympic medals, six All-Star appearances, two All-NBA Second Team selections, and two NBA championships. Gasol is set to rejoin familiar faces in Barcelona with his former coach in Sarunas Jasikevicius and a former teammate in Nikola Mirotic.

Pau Gasol, 40, will see action in the final stages of the Euroleague and Liga Endesa in a bid to prepare for the Tokyo Summer Olympics with the Spain national team.
