Though his season was cut short due to a torn left Achilles, New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins managed to pull off a feat only achieved by one other player in NBA history. In his 48 games played for the Pelicans this season, “Boogie,” as Cousins is known, managed to average over 20.0 points, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks, and over one made three, making him the first to achieve this feat since Shawn Marion did it as a member of the Phoenix Suns in 05-06, when he averaged 21.8 points, 2.0 steals, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 threes per game.

Cousins, now 27 years of age, averaged 25.2 points on 47.0 percent shooting from the field (2.2 made three-pointers per game at 35.4 percent), 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocks in 36.2 minutes for the Pelicans during their 2017-18 regular-season campaign.

Cousins underwent successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles in January and was later ruled out for the remainder of the season. While there is no set timetable for his return, most experts think the former University of Kentucky Wildcat will be out of commission for 6-10 months, though others argue he'll be ready in time for the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

Clearly, losing Cousins was a tough pill to swallow for the Pelicans, as he was on an All-Star pace. However, other players have suffered an Achilles injury and returned, including Kobe Bryant and Patrick Ewing, though they were never quite the same as before. Hopefully, Boogie can return to form.

Although Cousins was lost for the season, the Pelicans still managed to rack up a 48-34 overall record, which left them with a No. 6 seed and a first round matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers in the playoffs, which is scheduled to commence on Saturday.
