Jaxson Hayes and the New Orleans Pelicans had one of their most impressive wins of the season on Sunday after beating the Los Angeles Clippers, 135-115.
Hayes undoubtedly had memorable highlight after posterizing Clippers guard Reggie Jackson in one of the best dunks of the year. However, while the second-year big man admitted that the dunk is one of the best he’s had, he noted that it’s not what he’ll remember most from the game.
Asked Jaxson Hayes if he’d remember the dunk more or the block on Reggie Jackson:
His answer: “The win.”
Later, he did say that dunk was a top 3 dunk for him in his career.

As vicious as Jaxson Hayes’ dunk on Jackson was, he understands that picking up a win is still more important for the Pelicans, who moved up to 17-22 for the season after their second straight lopsided win. The 20-year-old played a big role in the victory, scoring 17 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the field while adding three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block off the bench.
Aside from Hayes, reserves Josh Hart and Kira Lewis Jr. also finished in double figures for New Orleans to provide ample support for All-Star Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, who each scored at least 20 points.
Meanwhile, Hayes also revealed after the game that he was one of the Pelicans players who received their first dosage of the COVID-19 vaccine, per The Athletic’s Will Guillory.

With Louisiana including people over the age of 16 with health conditions such as obesity and asthma in the vaccine eligibility, athletes have also been able to receive the shot, since obesity is determined by body mass index. Some of Hayes’ teammates who have also received their first dose are guard Sindarius Thornwell and forward Nicolo Melli.
