New Orleans Pelicans guard J.J. Redick was ejected from Sunday's matchup against the Boston Celtics after a rather contentious encounter with a game official. The veteran seemed to have inadvertently hit the referee with the ball, which turned out to be enough to earn him his second technical of the evening.

Here's a look at Redick spinning the ball back to the referee, which the game official clearly did not appreciate (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter):

Here's another look at the incident:

That's one of the oddest technical fouls we've seen in a while. What makes it even more suspect is how it was Redick's second tech, resulting in an early shower for the sharp-shooting two-guard.

It is worth noting, though, that Redick also got T'd up by the same referee minutes earlier. We're not sure if words were exchanged prior to Redick throwing the ball back to the ref, but it did not look like the Pelicans guard had any ill intentions with his act. It's not as if Redick hit him on the head with the ball either.

Be that as it may, this is another forgettable evening for Redick, who himself has been at the center of trade rumors of late.

Redick logged 18 minutes of action prior to being ejected, finishing with four points, one rebound, and three assists.
