The New Orleans Pelicans are forming quite a contingent of former Kentucky Wildcats. Apart from their two superstars, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, they’ve also added a couple more former Wildcats in swingman Darius Miller and veteran point guard Rajon Rondo during the NBA offseason.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari was the big reason why elite recruits like Davis and Cousins came over to Lexington over the past few years, and he got a chance to meet up with all of the Pelicans’ Wildcat alums.

Coach Cal coached Davis and Miller back in 2012, and they will always have a special place in his heart as they were integral in the Wildcats winning the national championship, Cal’s lone title to date.

He also made it to the Elite Eight with the Cousins and John Wall-led team in 2010. Rondo, who played at Kentucky from 2004-06, was a bit ahead of his time, though.

But even with Davis, Cousins, and the rest of their Wildcats, the Pelicans will have an uphill battle on their hands in terms of even making it into the playoffs in the much-improved Western Conference. Maybe they can ask Coach Cal for some pointers on how they can further improve for the upcoming season.
