The New Orleans Pelicans suffered a tough overtime loss to the Nuggets Wednesday night. To make things even worse, Kira Lewis Jr. suffered season ending injuries. The point guard sustained a torn ACL and a Grade 2 MCL sprain in the loss, the Pelicans tweeted Thursday afternoon.

The Pelicans didn't necessarily count Lewis out for the season, and announced that he is out indefinitely. Despite possible optimism for his return this season, these injuries are very significant and will most likely require season ending surgery.

The team is struggling without Zion Williamson, who hasn't played a single game for the Pelicans this season due to a fractured foot. However, Ingram has stepped up recently to provide the leadership that this New Orleans team needs. The small forward leads his team in points at 22.6 and 4.7 assists per game.

Adding Lewis to the IR is a step in the wrong direction when it comes to getting this Pelicans team back on track. If there is a silver lining, there's a possibility that Zion could return by the end of this month. This would be a huge boost for the team, who is struggling with a 7-20 record. The Pelicans are last place in the Western Conference. They will attempt to increase their record to 8-20 when they host the Detroit Pistons Thursday night.
