Stan Van Gundy has a lot on his plate as he takes over as head coach the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans have plenty of talent, with an All-Star in Brandon Ingram and a No. 1 overall pick in Zion Williamson. New Orleans is also still hoping former No. 2 overall pick Lonzo Ball will finally realize his full potential in his fourth season.

Van Gundy is impressed by what he sees from Ball, at least so far:

“He’s put together five straight really solid days of practice and games where he’s made good decisions, played good solid basketball,” Van Gundy said, via Jacob Rude of USA TODAY. “He’s been more aggressive to drive the ball. I like everything about what he’s doing right now. If he plays at that level, that will be huge for us.”

Aggressiveness in driving the ball could be a key factor in Lonzo's development with the Pelicans.

Ball has struggled to finish at the rim since making the transition to the NBA. He has put on a considerable amount of muscle since his rookie season, but has still been somewhat hesitant to initiate contact at the basket.

But showing more assertiveness in getting into the paint could unlock a whole new facet of Ball's abilities. The former UCLA star shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc on 6.3 attempts per game last year. His improvements from the perimeter will force opponents to respect the jumper, and Ball will be that much more dangerous if he commits to blowing by closeouts ad making plays at and around the rim.

The Pelicans have no shortage of offensive weapons. But Ball's ability to make plays in transition and create for himself, in addition to others, could make New Orleans that much more difficult to stop.
