New Orleans Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo has undergone surgery and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a sports hernia injury, according to Shams Charania of the Vertical. Rondo visited a specialist in Philadelphia on Monday to see if a surgery was indeed required.

The 31-year-old point guard suffered the injury in the first half of Friday's preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder and was kept from Sunday's matchup against his former team, the Chicago Bulls, as a precautionary measure.

The Pelicans had structured a lineup with Rondo at the point and Jrue Holiday as his backcourt mate, but by the looks of it, they might be forced to revert to their last season lineup with the UCLA standout playing point again or opt for offseason signing Ian Clark to notch the start until Rondo's return.

Rookie Frank Jackson is expected to be sidelined for another two-to-three months with a foot fracture, leaving Clark as the only player currently slated at the point guard position at this time.

Rondo was bound to play a huge part in the Pelicans equation, especially due to his chemistry with DeMarcus Cousins, which revitalized his career as a one-year member of the Sacramento Kings.

The Kentucky product signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Pelicans during the offseason.
