Newly-drafted Pelicans forward Zion Williamson stood before the media on Monday for a post-draft press conference. During the event, the former Duke standout was asked a peculiar question: “Are you in shape?”

At 6-7 and 285 pounds, Williamson is indeed a large human, but that certainly doesn't mean he's out of shape. In fact, most experts would argue that he was one of the more well-conditioned athletes in his draft class. To be frank, this young man has exceptional strength, but he knows exactly how to use it.

“Are you in shape,” a reporter asked Williamson during Monday's introductory press conference.

“Am I in shape?” Williamson asked with a wry smile. “I don't think you guys would have drafted me if that was the case. I think I'm in pretty good shape.”

Though he only spent one season with Duke, it quickly became evident that Williamson was going to be a dominant force in the future. The Spartanburg, South Carolina native played in 33 games with the Blue Devils, racking up averages of 22.6 points on 66.8 percent shooting from the field (33.8 percent from beyond the arc), 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks in 30.0 minutes per outing.

The Pelicans finished the 2018-19 regular season with a disappointing 33-49 overall record, which left the team well out of postseason contention. With Zion onboard, though, New Orleans will likely be looking to make a push for the playoffs next season.
