New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is the first NBA rookie since Dikembe Mutombo in 1991-92 to score at least 14 points in each of his first nine career NBA games. The last three rookies to do it before Williamson are Mutombo, Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan.

Williamson entered Tuesday's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. The Pelicans want Williamson to be healthy for the next decade or so.

Playing it safe with Zion injury-wise his entire career is probably the smart way to go since he’s so explosive and puts a lot of torque on his body and joints.

Speaking of Jordan, Williamson signed a record rookie sneaker deal worth $75 million over five years with Jordan Brand. It’s sort of fitting that Williamson is with Jordan Brand. Jordan is arguably the greatest dunker of all time.

Watching Williamson dunk with the Pelicans this season while wearing Jordan Brand shoes just seems right.
