Zion Williamson has officially signed his five-year max deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, and right after putting pen to paper, he let everyone know that he's laser-focused on their ultimate goal.

The Pelicans star inked his $193 million deal on Wednesday and immediately said he's completely “locked in” now that they got the contract negotiations out of the way.

Zion Williamson missed all of 2021-22 due to a foot injury that needed surgery. While there were hopes he could and would return at some point in the season, it never materialized as his recovery took longer than expected.

Now that he's working to full health and entering his fourth season in the NBA, though, Zion has big aspirations for himself and the Pelicans.

“I want to prove that I'm a winner. I want to win with coach. I want to win with my teammates. The ultimate goal is to win a championship. We're hungry,” Williamson said, via ClutchPoints Twitter.

It is easy to forget that Williamson was just an All-Star a couple of seasons ago. There are still questions about his overall conditioning and injury risk given his size, but there is no doubt he is a dominant and unstoppable player when fully healthy. Zion averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 2020-21.

The Pelicans had to put a lot of protections in their new deal with Zion because of his injury history, so that should only give the young forward added motivation to show what he can do and accomplish on the court.

Of course New Orleans fans are hoping he does so, especially as they look to become playoff and title contenders with Zion leading the way.
