Phil Jackson is the President of Basketball Operations for the New York Knicks.

That is a fact that isn't in danger of changing, but there is a limit to his term.

Jackson has an opt-out clause that he can exercise on July 1, 2017 in the event he gets tired of the Big Apple.

Insiders maintain if the possibility of reuniting with his long term girlfriend and Lakers executive Jeanie Buss comes, Jackson will bolt to L.A.

Currently, Jackson is not concerned with leaving the Knicks but is committed to the reason he signed up for.

His main priority is building the team back into a playoff contender, and that takes precedence over anything else.

The Knicks currently sit at the No. 10 spot in the eastern conference with an 8-9 record but the season is still young.

The triangle offense Jackson suggested has been all but rejected by the players and coach Jeff Hornacek needs time to right the ship.

Despite the team's flaws and the contract deadline approaching, Buss would hire Jackson who has a rich history with the organization at first opportunity.

After being dissuaded by both Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak previously, she may find a way to wiggle Jackson into  the team's front office without compromising its current vision.

Carmelo Anthony has a short time left in his prime, Kristaps Porzingis is not ready to fully carry a team, and those could be contributing factors in the event Jackson does leave.
