Christmas is still a few days away, but Andre Drummond is making it come a little early. The Detroit Pistons big man had a remarkable night against the Atlanta Hawks as he had 12 points, 18 rebounds, and perhaps most impressively, dished off eight assists, which is a new career high.

Drummond had actually been awarded nine, one shy of a triple-double, but was subsequently docked one assist upon further review. After the game, the Pistons center dubbed himself with a new nickname to best represent his giving nature.

Much has been made of Andre Drummond’s improved free throw shooting this season as he’s gone from sub-40 percent all the way up to 62 percent. However, his transformation as a playmaker has been just as, if not more, impressive. He’s now averaging 4.0 assists per game, four times better than his previous career best of 1.1.

Drummond’s evolution as someone who can be a capable focal point of the offense has added even more of value to his game apart from his elite rebounding and strong defense. It’s a part of his game few would have imagined him to have after his first four years in the league and is something that should excite Pistons fans moving forward.
