Larry Brown was under the impression the Detroit Pistons were going to draft Carmelo Anthony with the second overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Instead, the franchise selected Darko Milicic, and the rest is history.
Anthony has carved out a Hall of Fame career in the NBA, while Milicic was a bust and only played in 468 games.
The Pistons wound up winning the 2004 championship over the Los Angeles Lakers. Larry Brown, though, can't help but wonder how many titles Detroit could have won if the front office took Anthony, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh instead of Milicic:
Darko Milicic played 96 games with the Pistons. He averaged 1.6 points. For his career, Darko averaged 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds. He played for the Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and one game with the Boston Celtics after his Pistons tenure ended.
Carmelo Anthony, meanwhile, is one of the best scorers in NBA history. Melo may be out of the league at the moment, but during his prime, he was an unstoppable scorer who could have meshed well with the Pistons' core of Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace.
Anthony, a 10-time All-Star, has career averages of 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 1,064 games.
