The reason Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur sacked Jose Mourinho
Amid an underwhelming campaign, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur finally decided to head in a different direction as they parted ways with manager Jose Mourinho on Monday morning after one and a half seasons at the helm. Due to the move, first-team coach Ryan Mason would be in charge of handling the team for the time being.
Though the timing of the decision came as a shock to the public, the members of the organization already knew that they had to make a change on the sidelines if they want to reach greater heights in the future.
“Tottenham saw Mourinho as their way to get back into the Champions League but now that is impossible, he was on borrowed time.”
“The club were also unhappy with Mourinho’s constant criticism of the players in public, and very conscious of how the fans had turned on him.”
“They knew that if the fans came back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium they would make their feelings on Mourinho very clear. That scenario has now been avoided.”
Mourinho first came to North London back in November of 2019 as he took over the role vacated by his predecessor in Mauricio Pochettino. High expectations eventually surrounded the multi-titled tactician but he failed to deliver for the squad as they only finished in sixth place in the Premier League last season.
This year, their campaign hasn’t been any better as the team is currently sitting in the seventh spot of the standings with a subpar 14-10-8 tally in the Premier League. A qualification for the Champions League next season is also getting out of sight for the Hotspur due to their dismal performance as of late.
Moreover, the London-based squad previously had an early exit in the Europa League and will only vie for the Carabao Cup when they match up against Manchester City on Sunday. Through 86 games, Mourinho led the team to a 44-23-19 overall record until he was sacked in mid-April of 2021.
With the existing friction between players and fans under Mourinho’s rule, the Hotspur decided to look for a new manager that will allow the team to be competitive once again in the Premier League. Hopefully, they will be able to land the right tactician who can lead them back to being the strong title contenders that they once were.
