Since the turn of the year, there has been a firm belief that Kylian Mbappe will leave PSG this summer and complete a dream move to Real Madrid. But in a shocking turn of events, the Frenchman is set to stay at the Parc des Princes and sign a new contract.

Needless to say, this was not expected. Mbappe turned down previous extension offers from PSG because of his interest in Los Blancos, but now, the striker will remain in Paris and hopefully lead this side into the depths of the Champions League next season after a disappointing Round of 16 exit at the hands of Madrid.

The Spanish giants will surely be disappointed that Mbappe isn't joining the club, especially after they also missed out on Erling Haaland, who is taking his talents to Manchester City. That being said, Madrid is just fine. Karim Benzema is in the form of his life this term and Vinicius is the perfect partner for him in the final third. They also have a UCL title to play for next Saturday.

Mbappe was brilliant for PSG in 2021-22, scoring a Ligue 1-best 25 goals in 34 appearances while also leading the top flight with an impressive 17 assists. The 23-year-old scored six times and laid on another four in Europe as well, even netting in each leg against Madrid.

The comradery between Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe wasn't great in their first year together but now that the latter is returning, hopefully, they can build better chemistry. One thing is for sure though, Kylian Mbappe is going to continue to score and set up goals either way.

PSG fans can now breathe a sigh of relief.
