Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker provided one of the more comical highlights in recent history when he planted Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril on the floor with a blindside hit back in 2015. It appears the two have now officially buried the hatchet.

Although he got the better of Avril on the play, it left him on edge about retaliation for quite some time. Hekker admitted during an appearance on the latter's show on Sports Radio 950 KJR that he knew he messed up immediately after the hit.

“Oh man, the Chappelle Show had a segment ‘Keeping it real gone wrong.’ That was 100 percent the sitution,” Hekker said.

Hekker, a Seattle native, had friends and family calling him about the incident afterward wondering what he had been thinking. Fortunately, he managed to quickly make amends by apologizing to Avril and making a donation to his charity. Since then, the two have been on good terms.

“It’s all good,” said Avril. “It’s all squashed. It’s fun. Obviously, he’s here, so we’re good to go.”

A lot has changed since then. Hekker has become the best punter in football while Avril finds himself as a free agent after the recent overhaul in Seattle. Where once their spat was a personification of the rivalry between the Rams and Seahawks, it is no longer.

He can now rest easy knowing that there will be no retaliation from within the NFC West Division moving forward. It is safe to assume Hekker has learned his lesson about flexing his toughness as a punter.
