The Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed on a trade that is sending Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green North of the border in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 first round draft pick according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Leonard can become a free agent after this season and after seeing what the Oklahoma City Thunder did with Paul George they are hoping to do the same. Most of the speculation was that George would dart after one season with the Thunder to Los Angeles, but instead, he signed a long-term deal with the Thunder.
Most of the speculation is that Leonard wants to be in Los Angeles but they hope they can convince him to stay in Toronto. According to David Aldridge of TNT, it's going to be a lot tougher job to convince Leonard to stick around in Toronto for more than one year.
Kawhi Leonard has been informed that the trade to the Raptors has gone through, pending physicals—and given his injury, that is not nothing. Assuming he passes, per source, a long term stay in Toronto past this year is going to be “a very tough sell.”

Leonard is still going to have to pass his physical to get this deal to officially go through, but most expect that will be the case. The Raptors are taking a big chance signing Leonard on for one year with no guarantee that he will resign but it's a chance the team's front office is willing to take.
If Leonard does decide to dart that means it will probably be time for the team to rebuild or next offseason they will have a max contract spot that they can try and sign another superstar to pair up with Kyle Lowry.
