We may have just seen the last of veteran big man Marc Gasol in the NBA. This is after a report has surfaced pertaining to how the Toronto Raptors big man is expected to seriously consider making a return to Europe for next season, via Eurohoops.net.

Gasol just finished up the last season of his deal and will be entering free agency as part of a big offseason for Toronto. Despite being 35 years of age and clearly on the decline, Gasol is still considered to be a formidable big man who would be a great addition for any squad thanks to his stellar defense and leadership. The Spanish national also won the title with Toronto last season, which only adds to his already impressive resume.

While Gasol is fully expected to have suitors once he officially hits free agency, the report states that family matters might play a huge role in his impending decision. Despite a potentially lucrative deal in the NBA, Gasol might ultimately opt to make the move back to his native Spain to be able to be with his family. If anything, this pandemic has highlighted the importance of each of our families, so perhaps this is also something that weighs heavily on Gasol.

The 6-foot-11 big man is no longer the dominant player he once was. A former three-time All-Star, Marc Gasol was also awarded Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. He served many years as the cornerstone star of the Memphis Grizzlies, and it wasn't until two years ago that he parted ways with his former squad. He has had a great career in the NBA, so if this turns out to be it, then he has nothing but fond memories to look back on.
