Real Madrid did everything imaginable to sign PSG star Kylian Mbappe this summer, but the French giants didn't budge. Los Blancos even put €220 million on the table for the player and still, PSG refused to strike a deal.

While Madrid has been doing just fine without him, Toni Kroos was recently asked about the whole situation and what the feeling was like in the dressing room when they failed to bring in the talented Frenchman. Via Goal:

“In the summer I already said that I would like a player like him to come, but if he doesn't we have a good team.

“Let's see what happens in the future, it is difficult for me to say because I am not the one who decides. His quality has not changed, he is a good player and what we know is that Real Madrid wanted to sign him but in the end they didn't succeed.

“Everything continues, also without Mbappe here. I think we are doing well and for the future my opinion has not changed: the best players have to be at Madrid and he is sure to be one of them.”

Now, the hope is that Real Madrid can sign Mbappe for free next summer and possibly even come to a pre-contract agreement in January if he in fact wants to leave PSG. Carlo Ancelotti's side has been linked with Erling Haaland as well and there have been rumors that the La Liga standouts could make a move for both strikers in 2022. Talk about frightening.

Real Madrid hasn't had any problems scoring goals this term though thanks to the productivity of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. The strike duo has combined for 13 goals and nine assists in league play, with Los Blancos sitting at the top of the table. They've netted an impressive 21 times in just seven matches while conceding eight.

For now, the Spaniards won't be too worried about Kylian Mbappe. But, they're definitely still monitoring his situation with the hope of a move in the near future.
