The 2022 NHL Draft kicked off with the first round Thursday night. Ahead of night two, the St. Louis Blues traded Ville Husso to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third round pick in the draft.

The Red Wings tweeted the news Friday morning.

According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Husso's deal with the Red Wings is a three-year extension holding $4.75 million average annual value.

This is both a great acquisition for the Red Wings and a great opportunity for Ville Husso. Detroit failed to find a spot in the playoffs after finishing the regular season 32-40-10.

Husso provides security for the team, especially with starting goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic dealing with a lower body injury. He was taken off of the USA Hockey roster for the IIHF World Championship in Finland in May due to the injury.

Nedeljkovic is probable for the start of the 2022-2023 season. However, Ville Husso is destined to get more opportunities in Detroit than he did with the Blues. St. Louis drafted Husso in 2014. However, he's only played in the last two NHL seasons, making his debut in the 2020-2021 season.

Husso played outstanding in his 57 games with the Blues, recording 34 wins, 13 losses, and seven overtime appearances. The Red Wings got a sure thing in their deal with the Blues. As for St. Louis, they'll use their third round pick when the 2022 NHL Draft continues Friday night.
